Project Engineer Design - R&D

This is an opportunity to join the Haldex team at our MIRA UK site. The Haldex MIRA site plays a leading role for Haldex globally in Research & Development.


Developing new products & technologies as well as offering technical support for our existing products. As a Project engineer in the design department you will be responsible for the design of mechanical components for commercial vehicle pneumatic braking control systems.

  • Design of components and assemblies to meet product specification.

  • Support the development of the product from conception through to manufacture.

  • Create 3D models along with associated and detailed 2D drawings to enable manufacture.

  • Utilise calculations and design aids as appropriate to meet design specifications.

  • Meet cost and timing targets to enable a commercially viable product.

  • Communicate with external suppliers, the appropriate internal departments and personnel to optimise manufacturability, cost and performance requirements.

  • Produce specifications for components to include material, finish, etc.

  • Project Manage internal project or design aspects of an external resource.

  • Perform job functions in accordance with set policies and procedures to ensure preservation of Company Quality Policy.

Required skills & experience

  • Degree or HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

  • Competent user of 3D CAD & 2D drafting.

  • Use of Microsoft packages.

  • Ability to carry out calculations to support design.

  • Ability to be creative and innovative in the design process.

  • Ability to solve problems and be self-motivated.

  • Ability to work independently and project manage your activities.

  • Ability to communicate at all levels, verbal, written and via presentations.

  • Ability to work with others in a cross-discipline team.

Desirable Attributes

  • Proficient in the use of ProE/Creo CAD to produce 3D models and 2D drawings for components

  • Experience with Bluestar or Windchill data management tools.

  • Ability to use FEA software to analyse component stress levels from 3D CAD.

  • Knowledge of pneumatic systems applicable to truck and heavy trailers

  • Working knowledge of 8D problem solving process

  • Working knowledge of FMEA and DVP&R process

  • Working knowledge of design of plastic/rubber moulding

  • Working knowledge of design of aluminium casting

  • Working knowledge of design of pressings

  • Working knowledge of APQP

  • Good working knowledge of BS8888
